Great post, Kelley. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I don’t know what the answers are either, but it’s definitely not whatever social media is becoming.

Hi Kelley,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts in this post! I love writing on Substack and I hope you'll continue writing here too. I'd love to see you branch out and write about the films, books, and music that have influenced and inspired you through the years. Also, with the new video feature, have you thought about sharing some of your short films and then writing a post about each one underneath it? That would be cool, I think. And, have you used Notes yet? That's a great way to reach more people here (kind of like Substack's version of twitter). I would also love to read your thoughts about where you think Indie film is going and how older indie filmmakers (like me) can thrive in this changing environment. Anyway, whatever you decide to do, I hope you'll stay here like I said above because I love reading your posts.

Jim,

Sorry I haven’t responded sooner, it’s been a bit crazy. First, when it comes to Substack I’m not going anywhere. I like this platform and I can see learning more about it because I know I don’t use it to it’s full potential. Eventually I can see using more of it’s tools and I am interested in using video on the site. I like your idea of posting my short films and writing about them. I have not used notes yet either. I need to spend some time looking at how I can use the tools better. I think it’s really FB and Instagram that I think about leaving.

You made a few suggestions about things I should write about and I am going to take you up on some of them, maybe all of them.

I don’t know what the future holds for independents like us, I do know we have to figure it out to continue to not just survive but to thrive.

Thank you for being out there and commenting on my work. I am enjoying the hell out of the things you are writing about as well.

Take care my friend.

Sincerely,

Kelley
